The uniform policy for St. Joseph School is intended to limit distractions and promote focus on academic achievement and growth. The uniform closet is available to everyone throughout the year. Purchase of new uniforms must follow the guidelines provided below. Students must wear the required uniform each day. Failure to do so will result in being asked to change clothes, parents contaced, and/or removed from class until the problem has been solved.
Dress Code/ Uniform Policy:
General: All familes are given the Uniform Policy (below) for the upcomig year in June of the previous year. Students are expected to follow it for all days of the school year. Changes in the Uniform Polcy for special occasions will be noted and communicate to students/ familes. Sudents are expected to come to school with clean bodies and clothes. Gym clothes are worn two days per week for grades K-8. It is strongly recommended that student have two sets of gym clothes for the school year. Uniforms are checked in the morning by the mentor teacher.
Preschool: Children should wear comfortable play clothes which are appropriate for pre-school. Students must be able to handle their clothes for restroom breaks. All pre-school students must wear tennis shoes each day. All students, including preschoolers, are expected to wear dressier clothes on mass days. Jeans, shorts, or any clothes inappropriate for mass are STRICKLY PROHIBIITED. Dress shoes may be worn on dress-up mass uniform days.
Grades K-8:
Pants: All students in grades K-8 wear solid navy blue slacks at the waist with no decorations.
Students in 7th and 8th grade ONLY are also permitted to wear beige colored pants. Belts are optional but should be black, navy blue, or brown.
Shirt: Any SOLID color of shirt that has buttons and a lay-down collar may be worn on days when
students DO NOT have gym or mass. The shirts may be short or long-sleeved with NO trim of any
kind.They may be worn on the outside of pants and skirts if they have a straight cut and are no
longer than the middle of the hip. U-cut and long shirts must be worn inside of pants and skirts.
Jumper/Skirt:
Girls K-3 – school plaid or solid navy blue jumper.
Girls 4-8 – school plaid or solid navy blue middle of the knee or longer. Students in 7th and 8th grade
ONLY may choose to wear beige skirt.
Shoes: Regular tennis shoes only that can be worn in gym. Any color. Shoes should not make black marks on floors and must tie or velcro closure.
Socks: Solid white, navy blue or black only. Must cover ankles. May be crew, knee-high, or tights.
PE Clothes:
Shorts: Solid navy blue, black, or navy blue with white stripe, middle of the knee
Shirt: School PE shirt only. Purchased at school office or approved provider.
Shoes: Regular tennis shoes as noted above.
Sweats: Solid navy blue, black, or navy with a white stripe. Must be worn to and from school during
winter months. PE shorts may be worn under sweats.
Jewelry: No jewelry may be worn during PE class.
Mass Unifroms: Dress shirts/ blouses for mass days must be of any solid color, no trim of any kind, and must be worn inside pants, jumpers, and shkirts no matter the kind of cut.
Girls: Uniform jumper/ skirt/ blouse required. Sweater/ sweatshirt optional.
Boys: Uniform slacks, button-down, collared, and solid colored dress shirt and tie required.
Dress shoes (solid black, navy blue, white, or brown) recommended but not required. No walking shorts or hoodies.
Dress-down Days: There will be dress-down days and/or SJS School Spirit Days throughout the school year. Only clothes appropriate for school may be worn.
Miscellneous:
Sweatshirts: Solid royal or navy blue only. Must have an official St. Joseph School Logo. May be crew or hoodie. A uniform turtleneck, shirt, jumper must be worn under the sweatshirt
Walking Shorts: May be worn August/September and May/June (weather permitting). Solid navy blue with no decorations, middle of the knee. Students in 7th and 8th grade ONLY are also permitted to wear beige colored shorts. Girls may wear a solid navy skort with a flap only in the front.
Sweaters: Solid navy, royal blue or white only. May be cardigan, crew, or vest.
Jewelry: One small cross or religious necklace, wrist watch (Smart Watches or any watch that has Internet and/or texting capabilities is strickly prohibited) and/or one small ring. Girls ONLY – one post earring per ear.
Hair: Clean, natural, age-appropriate, neatly trimmed and above the eyes.
Girls – hair bands and clips (white, blue, or school plaid only)
Boys – No longer than the bottom of the ear.
Make-up: Lip moisturizer may be used and is recommended especially during the winter months.
Fingernails must be trimmed and unpolished. No artificial nails.
NOTE: The Uniform Policy is reviewed annually and will be strictly enforced so students can focus on learning and growth. It is the responsibility of the parent to check the students clothes before coming to school All final decisions about the Uniform Policy are made by the principal.
