Dress Code/Uniform Policy:
General: All families are given the Uniform Policy (below) for the upcoming year in June of the previous year. Students are expected to follow it for all days of the school year. Changes in the Uniform Policy for special occasions will be noted and communicated to students/families. Students are expected to come to school with clean bodies and clothes. Gym clothes are worn two days per week for grades K-8. It is strongly recommended that students have two sets of gym clothes for the school year. Uniforms are checked in the morning by the mentor teacher.
Preschool: Children should wear comfortable play clothes which are appropriate for preschool. Students must be able to handle their own clothes for restroom breaks. All preschool students must wear tennis shoes each day. All students, including preschoolers, are expected to wear dressier clothes on mass days. Jeans, shorts, or any clothes inappropriate for mass are STRICTLY PROHIBITED. Dress shoes may be worn on dress up mass uniform days.
Grades K-8:
Girls 4-8 - school plaid or solid navy, middle of the knee or longer. Students in 7th and 8th
grade ONLY may choose to wear beige skirts.
PE Clothes:
Shorts: Solid navy blue, black, or navy blue with white stripe, middle of the knee.
Mass Uniforms: Dress shirts/blouses for mass days must be of any solid color, no trim of any kind, and must be worn inside pants, jumpers, and skirts no matter the kind of cut.
SJS Spirit Days: School Spirit days will occasionally be allowed. Students must wear a shirt with a SJS logo in print or writing. Students may wear casual pants or shorts of the appropriate length on SJS Spirit Days.
Dress-down Days: There will be dress-down days. Only clothes appropriate for school may be worn.
Miscellaneous:
Sweatshirts: Solid royal , grey or navy blue only. Must have an approved St. Joseph School logo. It may be crew or hoodie. A uniform turtleneck, shirt, or jumper must be worn under the sweatshirt. Other hoodies may be worn while outside or transition outside between buildings but must be removed once inside the school building.
Sweaters: Solid navy, royal blue, or white only. May be cardigan, crew, or vest.
Hair: Clean, natural, age-appropriate, neatly trimmed and above the eyes. Radical haircuts/styles or colors are not permitted. If the length of the hair causes a visual impediment towards learning, a hair trim may be requested.
Boys - No longer than the bottom of the ear. Hair must be neat and well-trimmed. No
hairstyle may extend below the earlobe on the sides and must be tapered to no
longer than the top of the collar in the back. No ponytails, man-buns, barrettes,
headbands, and/or scrunchies for boys are allowed. Unconventional/ fad cuts,
colors, and styles are not acceptable.
Girls - hair bands and clips (white, blue, or school plaid only)
NOTE: The Uniform Policy is reviewed annually and will be strictly enforced so students can focus on learning and growth. It is the responsibility of the parent to check the student’s clothes before coming to school. All final decisions about the uniform policy are made by the principal.
The uniform policy for St. Joseph School is intended to limit distractions and promote focus on academic achievement and growth. The uniform closet is available to everyone throughout the year. Purchase of new uniforms must follow the guidelines provided. Students must wear the required uniform each day. Failure to do so will result in being asked to change clothes, parents contacted, and/or removed from class until the problem has been solved.
